Storeroom Fire at Sally Mugabe Hospital Engulfs Records

A fire damaged a storage room at Sally Mugabe Hospital on Saturday afternoon. The blaze destroyed medical records kept on top of the hospital's intensive care unit. Firefighters from Harare City Council arrived within seven minutes of receiving the emergency call. They stopped the flames from spreading to other parts of the building. Hospital workers watched as smoke filled the air above the medical facility.

People working at the hospital noticed the fire first and called for help. One person washing clothes saw smoke and shouted warnings to others nearby. Some hospital staff tried to fight the flames before professional firefighters arrived. The quick response prevented more serious damage to the medical center. Emergency teams worked hard to save the rest of the building from destruction.

Mayor Jacob Mafume explained that the storage area held important hospital records. These documents must be kept permanently according to government rules. The papers were stored near solar panels on the hospital roof. About ten solar panels were located close to where the fire started. Laboratory records were also kept in the same area.

Government officials promised to investigate the incident and provide assistance. Civil Protection Chief Nathan Nkomo said his department will write a report for Cabinet review. Early reports suggest the solar power system may have caused the electrical fire. The investigation continues as officials work to determine the exact cause. This fire follows recent blazes at downtown businesses and Churchill Boys High School.
