Stranded Ugandans Flee Israel via Cairo

Israel's ambassador told Ugandans trapped during fighting to contact their Cairo embassy for help leaving the country. Michael Lotem spoke to reporters through video and said Uganda's Egypt mission could arrange exits through land borders. About 500 Ugandans live across Israel as business people and students. Iran launched missiles and drones at Israeli targets forcing airports and seaports to close completely. People can only escape through Jordan and Egypt crossings that remain open.

Ben Gurion Airport stopped all flights and ships cannot dock at any Israeli ports. The United States shut down consular services and warned Americans to stay inside safe buildings. Uganda has not announced official rescue plans but diplomats say Cairo staff stands ready to assist citizens. Some Ugandans already fled through Turkey according to government officials. Stranded citizens posted online messages asking their government for emergency transportation help.

Many Ugandans sleep inside bomb shelters and struggle to find working transportation during road closures. Uganda operates no embassy inside Israel but uses its Cairo office to handle regional problems. The country previously organized rescues through African partner nations during past emergencies. Iran and Israel started shooting rockets at each other's important military and civilian facilities. Diplomatic sources expect Uganda's foreign ministry to release guidance for citizens seeking safe passage home.
