Student Beats Mental Illness to Score Straight A

Brian Otucho, a student at Kapsabet Boys High School, scored an A grade on the recent KCSE exams despite facing health challenges. He dreams of becoming a pilot one day.

Brian had to miss three terms of school in Form Three due to a mental illness. His mother, Consalia, said he was confused and struggled to focus on his studies. But Brian surprised everyone with his excellent results.

"We were worried because of the setback, but now we are celebrating his results," Consalia said. The family thanks God for Brian's success.

The school's chief principal, Kipchumba Maiyo, said Brian was always a top student. The teachers are proud of him for overcoming his challenges.

Dr. Zaccius Rop, a psychiatrist, said mental illness is treatable. He praised Brian's parents and teachers for their support. Dr. Rop wants the community to view mental health issues like any other medical condition.

Kapsabet Boys is one of the best schools in Kenya. The principal hoped for many high scores from last year's class. Some technical issues made checking the results difficult at first.

Brian's story shows that students can achieve their goals with hard work and the right help, even when facing big obstacles. His 84-point A grade is a testament to his determination.
