Super Eagles to play at Amaan Stadium in 2024 African Nations Championship

Nigeria's home-based Super Eagles will compete at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar during the 2024 African Nations Championship group stage matches. The 15,000-seat venue previously hosted this year's CAF Confederation Cup final. Zanzibar operates as a semi-autonomous region under Tanzania's government. The Eagles face a challenging Group D with defending champions Senegal alongside Sudan and Congo. CAF announced the official venues Thursday for the upcoming tournament.

Three East African nations will share hosting duties for the competition. Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania will welcome teams from across the continent. The championship runs from August 2 through August 30 this year. Only players competing in their home country's domestic leagues can participate in CHAN. The biennial tournament showcases local talent from African football leagues.

The tournament format restricts participation to domestically-based players only. This rule ensures local leagues receive international exposure and recognition. African football federations use CHAN to develop homegrown talent without overseas influence. The competition provides a platform for players who might otherwise lack international opportunities. Teams must rely entirely on their domestic player pools for squad selection.
