Supervisor Gets 3 Years for Sewing Machine Heist

A court gave Mohammed Salisu three years in jail for taking two sewing machines. Each machine costs GHC5,000 from a warehouse at Spintex. Salisu said he did it alone. The judge let his friend Shitu go free because he only helped move the stolen items.

The police officer explained that Salisu worked as a supervisor at a bakery and lived in Nungua before running away. The business owner reported a Motor King worth GHC39,000 stolen last October. Police arrested Salisu but released him on bail. That night, he used keys to steal the machines.

Salisu packed everything he had before leaving town. Police couldn't find him until February, when cameras showed Shitu with him. Officers found Salisu hiding in Agona Swedru, but he ran when he saw them. They caught him on March 3 in Nungua later that week.

Salisu told police he sold both machines for just GHC2,000 in Togo. He wouldn't say who bought them from him. His friend Shitu claimed he never knew the items were stolen when he helped transport them.
