India's Supreme Court requested responses from federal authorities and Ladakh officials on Monday after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's wife filed a petition challenging his detention under the National Security Act. Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria declined to order disclosure of detention grounds to Gitanjali J Angmo, but scheduled another hearing for Oct. 14. Authorities detained Wangchuk under the act on Sept. 26 following protests that killed four people and injured 90 others in demonstrations seeking statehood and constitutional protections for Ladakh. The activist remains held at Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan.
