Suspected IED on Katarko-Goniri Road in Yobe State Kills Four and Injures 21

A roadside bomb explosion killed four people and wounded at least 21 others Friday on Katarko-Goniri Road in Yobe State's Gujba Local Government Area. The victims traveled to Buniyadi market when their vehicle triggered the explosive device. Medical teams transported the wounded to specialist hospitals and Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu for treatment. Families buried the dead after recovering their bodies from the blast site. The attack occurred near Gotala community at the edge of Sambisa forest.

Boko Haram militants have operated from the forest region for fifteen years. Witnesses reported that military vehicles and local security forces encountered a similar explosive device Thursday on the same road. Multiple casualties resulted from that earlier incident. The area remains dangerous for travelers and residents due to ongoing insurgent activity. Security forces have not released official statements about either attack.

Family members of the victims urged Yobe State Government to rebuild the damaged road immediately. They believe better infrastructure would reduce insurgent operations and protect lives. The current road conditions make it easier for militants to plant explosive devices. Communities near Goniri military base face constant threats from these attacks. Residents fear more violence without government intervention to improve transportation routes.
