Mr. Ackah Anthony died early Saturday morning at the Police Hospital in Accra. The former Sports Writers Association of Ghana president passed away according to Joy Sports reports. Anthony led SWAG from 2007 to 2015 and helped make sports journalism better across the country. He organized many successful SWAG Awards ceremonies during his time as leader. The awards program remains the longest running event of its kind in Ghana.
Anthony worked as Assistant Editor at Graphic Sports under the Graphic Communications Group Limited. He wrote a popular column called Candid Corner that appeared on the back page of The Mirror newspaper. His writing tackled tough topics about Ghana sports and questioned people in power. Sports fans knew him for speaking his mind about problems that needed fixing. Many journalists respected his honest approach to covering athletics.
