A court sent Abubacarr Jatta to jail for one year after he took a motorbike from Pa Nderry Touray. When Magistrate Sowe read the charge, Jatta said he was guilty. The court also ordered Jatta to pay D35,000 to Touray or stay behind bars for another year.
Police said Jatta took the motorbike last July 24 and rode it at night by himself. A friend spotted the stolen bike hidden near a swamp in Jeshwang and told Touray right away. Police came to the area, found the damaged motorbike, and arrested Jatta.
The case moved fast through court after officers charged Jatta with theft. Magistrate Sowe noted that Jatta saved court time with his guilty plea. The bike had several broken parts when police recovered it from the swampy hiding spot. Jatta faced the judge at Kanifing Magistrates' Court for his final hearing and sentencing.
