Political commentator Tafadzwa Bambaninga has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of using extreme tactics to "coup-proof" his presidency amid increasing ZANU-PF tensions over succession. Bambaninga claimed Mnangagwa recently sent a group of soldiers and a traditional healer to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) studios to perform rituals aimed at calming the spirits of army generals who supported his rise to power following the 2017 military coup.
The group, led by Mnangagwa's nephew Valdano Brown, allegedly misrepresented themselves as part of an advance team for Seychelles Prime Minister Wavel Ramkalawan. Bambaninga criticized Mnangagwa for turning to spiritual practices over rational governance, pointing to his reliance on occult advisors and controversial figures. He also made unverified claims about Mnangagwa’s son and tensions within the government.
