Tagwirei Calls Contractors, Chigananda Scandal Erupts

Kuda Tagwirei caused anger after using the word Chigananda during a weekend speech at Masvingo. The business leader called on young people to join government money programs that help the economy grow fast. Tagwirei said President Mnangagwa created chances for local people to make wealth and gain power like an army. During his talk, Tagwirei brought successful young business people to the stage. The tycoon wanted to show examples of people who became rich through government help.

Tagwirei pointed to Obey Chimuka, who runs Fossil Contracting and builds roads across Zimbabwe. He called Chimuka a Chigananda, which means greedy person, according to Vice President Chiwenga. Fossil Contracting built the new Mbare Musika Market and received many construction contracts from the government. Chimuka also controls Khaya Cement company and appears on UK sanctions lists. People clapped loudly when Tagwirei used the insulting term about his business partner.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba posted angry messages on social media after hearing about the speech. Charamba said Zimbabwe cannot develop when people use mean names for wealth creation programs. The official warned that calling business initiatives bad names hurts economic growth. Charamba stressed that capitalism requires respect for money-making activities. Tagwirei leads the Land Tenure Implementation Committee and runs the Sakunda Holdings company.
