Taiwan probes 16 China-linked firms for covert talent poaching in tech sector

Taiwan authorities examine sixteen Chinese corporations suspected of recruiting local talent through deceptive methods. These firms establish fake Taiwanese operations to mask their true origins and redirect workers to mainland China via fraudulent recruitment agencies. Victory Giant Tech supplies circuit boards to NVIDIA while Goertek provides audio components to Google and Meta, both facing scrutiny. Chipone, a major display chip designer, also appears on the investigation list. The Justice Ministry deployed three hundred investigators to search seventy locations and question one hundred twenty people.

Corporate espionage incidents surged from sixteen cases in 2021 to sixty-four in 2024, marking a three hundred percent increase. Chinese hackers launched sophisticated attacks against Taiwan's semiconductor sector between March and June 2025. Cybersecurity company Proofpoint identified three distinct hacker groups targeting chip manufacturers and investment firms. These campaigns demonstrated unprecedented coordination levels. The attacks extended beyond technology companies to reach financial analysts specializing in Taiwanese semiconductor investments.
