Tank Operator Caught in Ethanol Heist

A worker at a big fuel company stole a lot of special fuel called ethanol. The police caught Liberty Rice, who worked at the company's fuel station in Msasa, Harare. He took more than 15,000 liters of ethanol worth seventeen thousand dollars.

The company gave Rice an important job. He needed to check all the special fuel coming from a place called Chisumbanje and ensure its safety in big tanks. Rice worked with his friend Tichaona Mazani to take the fuel. The police haven't found Mazani yet.

One day in January, a truck brought forty thousand liters of ethanol to the fuel station. Rice put only twenty-four thousand liters in the tanks. He kept almost sixteen thousand liters for himself. He wrote the wrong numbers in his workbook to make people think all the fuel went into the tanks.

The next day, other workers at the company discovered something was wrong. They went to the police station in Mabvuku to tell them what had happened. The police arrested Rice. They haven't found the stolen fuel yet. A judge named Ms Ethel Chichera said Rice must pay one hundred dollars to stay out of jail until his next court date.
