Tanzania continues major upgrade of Iringa Airport project

The government, through the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), is advancing a significant project aimed at rehabilitating and expanding Iringa Airport. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the country's air transport services with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and international standards. The project, with a budget exceeding 63 billion Tanzanian shillings, is nearly complete, having reached 97 percent of its planned development.

Key upgrades, including runway improvements and infrastructure enhancements, have been completed. The construction of a new permanent passenger terminal is also progressing smoothly. Once completed, the expanded airport will boost its capacity to accommodate more aircraft and passengers simultaneously. This improvement is expected to address transportation challenges and improve the efficiency of air services in the Southern Zone.

The finished project will provide Iringa Region with a modern, safe airport capable of supporting economic growth, trade, and tourism in the area. The development is anticipated to have a positive impact on both local and regional economies.
