Tanzania locks out public as Samia claims 98 percent

Tanzanian leader Samia Suluhu Hassan began another term in office during a military ceremony held on Monday in the capital city of Dodoma. The president received 98 percent of the votes in elections that concluded on Saturday, according to official results.

Hassan took her oath before the nation's chief justice at a secured parade ground where government ministers and military personnel gathered for the formal proceedings. Citizens watched the event through state television broadcasts after organizers barred public attendance. Armed forces personnel provided ceremonial honors as Hassan received symbolic instruments representing state authority.

The administration has signaled its focus on maintaining political order and managing economic affairs as the new term begins. Military units saluted during the structured ceremony that featured the national flag and honor guards positioned beside the president.
