Tanzania marks Christmas with calls for peace, humility and national unity

The main Christmas shindig in Tanzania this year is going down in Kigoma at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory. A priest named Raustine Furaha is running the show, with the whole thing being broadcast for people stuck at home. A bunch of church heads are using the occasion to give their standard holiday spiel.

Bishop Alex Malasusa from the Evangelical Lutheran crew said it should be more about forgiveness and less about partying. The local Catholic bishop, Joseph Mlola, talked up humility for people in charge. Other preachers echoed the usual themes about peace and loving thy neighbor, with one even giving condolences to families dealing with violence. The overall vibe from the pulpit is a call for reflection and national cohesion, wrapped in the typical Christmas message about hope and renewal. Basically, it is another year of religious leaders pushing moral values during the festive season.
