Tanzania marks National Nutrition Day in Ruvuma

Tanzania's Ministry of Health has launched National Nutrition Day commemorations across all mainland regions, with activities running through the climax event in Ruvuma. The annual observance aims to educate the public about proper dietary practices and the far-reaching consequences of poor nutrition on both economic and social development.

Officials emphasized this year's message centered on viewing health as fundamental capital for society. The ministry highlighted how adequate nutrition supports physical and mental development while protecting against conditions including diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disease and stroke, and also reduces stunting among young children.

Citizens received guidance to consume diverse locally sourced foods, particularly vegetables, fruits, animal products and fortified items, while limiting intake of high-fat, sugary and salty foods. The ministry also encouraged regular physical activity to maintain a healthy body weight and prevent chronic diseases.
