Taraba State lawmakers moved closer to controlling their budget Wednesday. Assembly members approved the second reading of a bill that would let them manage their finances independently. The legislation creates rules for handling legislative funds without outside interference.

He said the law would help the Assembly run pension payments and staff salaries more efficiently. Other representatives agreed the bill was needed after years of delays.
The new rules would give lawmakers more freedom to spend money on operations. Assembly members believe financial independence will make their work more effective. They passed the measure through a voice vote without opposition.
Deputy Speaker Haman Adama Abdullahi sent the bill to the finance committee for review. Committee members must hold public hearings and report back within two weeks. The governor must sign the legislation before it becomes official state law.
