Team Cherry hides Silksong from critics before its September launch

Team Cherry revealed plans for downloadable content during a Bloomberg interview that accompanied the Silksong release announcement. Co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen explained their extended development timeline stemmed from continuous content additions rather than technical obstacles. The developers maintained their small team structure while expanding the game beyond original expectations.

Hollow Knight generated over 15 million sales since 2017, providing financial stability for prolonged development cycles. Gibson and Pellen spent recent years polishing existing content instead of creating new features. The team avoided public updates to prevent disappointment among supporters.

Team Cherry decided against distributing advance review copies to maintain fairness for Kickstarter backers. Critics will access Silksong alongside general audiences when it launches September 4, 2025. The sequel will debut across personal computers and console platforms simultaneously.
