Team Nigeria crowned World Scrabble Champions in Accra

Nigeria claimed the world Scrabble championship title in Accra, defeating the United States and 27 other competing nations with a decisive performance that showcased the team's tactical dominance. Captain Rex Ogbakpa led 20 players through the tournament, with standout contributions from continental champion Oluwatimilehin Doko and partner Abdulmumin Jimoh from Ogun State, who dismantled opposition defenses with strategic precision.

The squad featured five competitors from Warri Scrabble Club alongside Lagos representatives Dipo Akanbi, John Aiyedun, and Hakeem Olaribigbe, while Edo State athletes Godwin Victor and George Ezinore reinforced the lineup. Nigeria Scrabble Federation Vice President Lovejoy Ogbuokiri Ezinna provided financial backing for the victorious team.

Officials plan to present the gold-plated trophy to the National Sports Commission upon completion of celebratory activities. The champions will defend their crown at the next tournament scheduled in two years.
