A teenage refugee died after a truck hit her at a transit center in Uganda. The accident killed 16-year-old Lydia Mbakemiye from North Kivu Province in Congo. She lived at the Nyakabande Refugee Transit Centre in Kisoro when the incident happened on Monday afternoon. Police said other refugees pushed her toward the moving vehicle during a registration line. The truck wheels ran over her.
The white Isuzu truck belonged to UNHCR, the UN refugee agency. Kule Mosheni, aged 57, drove the vehicle that day. He came from Mpondwe in Kasese District to help transport equipment for refugee processing. After the accident, police officer Michael Kushaba arrived with a team to investigate what happened. They sent her body to Kisoro Hospital for medical examination.
