Terziev hits back at Peevski over Sofia parking fee hike

Sofia's chief executive has dismissed challenges from Bulgarian Rights Movement leader Delyan Peevski, who vowed to contest municipal council approval of doubled parking rates and expanded enforcement zones through litigation. Mayor Vasil Terziev characterized the opposition as populist theater from officials who overlook their billion-leva policy failures while manufacturing outrage over necessary reforms.

The council ratified rate increases that will charge motorists two euros hourly in premium blue zones and one euro in green areas when implementation begins next year. Annual permits will rise to 150 and 100 euros, respectively, with second-vehicle fees doubling those amounts. Enforcement boundaries will gradually extend into residential districts near the ring road, prompting resident demonstrations and council minority criticism.
