Theofelus inaugurates the MTC tower to expand 4G coverage

Namibia has activated a 60-meter telecommunications tower bringing 4G connectivity to Epinga village within Omundaungilo constituency of Ohangwena region. Information and communication technology minister Emma Theofelus characterized the installation as advancing efforts to reduce digital disparities affecting rural populations, with financing provided through the universal service fund administered by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia.

Local inhabitants received more than 130 Oka smartphones during the commissioning ceremony, with 100 devices sourced from the universal service fund, 20 from Mobile Telecommunications Limited, and 10 from managing director Licky Erastus. Theofelus emphasized that the combination of infrastructure and mobile equipment would enable comprehensive digital participation for residents.

Additional universal service fund initiatives are planned for deployment across multiple regions nationwide, marking the program's first completed installation since launching earlier in the year.
