A police officer’s vehicle was stolen right outside Bulawayo Central Police Station in a case that has surprised many due to its boldness and timing. On October 31, 2025, Constable Mashora parked his Honda Fit in the station’s lot before beginning his shift. Later that evening, an individual used an unidentified tool to access the car and drive away, taking with him not just the vehicle but also the officer’s personal belongings inside.
The following day, detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad tracked the suspect, Talent Mpofu of Entumbane, to his home, where he was arrested. Mpofu led officers to a nearby service station where the car had been left. However, after being brought back to the police station, Mpofu managed to escape while still in handcuffs and returned home, where he was later found hiding under a bed. At his court appearance on November 7, Mpofu faced multiple charges, including vehicle theft, driving without a license, and escaping custody. He explained that financial pressures had motivated his actions, and he remains in custody as the trial continues.
