Tinubu Cheers Buhari On June 12 Democracy Day Move

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised former President Muhammadu Buhari for making June 12 the official Democracy Day. Tinubu spoke to lawmakers on Wednesday about how important this change was for Nigeria. He said Buhari helped heal the country and fixed old political mistakes. The president called it a bold move that honored people who fought for freedom. Buhari recognized the 1993 election that military leaders had cancelled.

Tinubu remembered his days fighting against military rule during the 1990s. He felt emotional standing before lawmakers and talking about democracy struggles. The president promised to protect what freedom fighters achieved for Nigeria. He said his government will keep making democracy stronger for all citizens. Tinubu made this promise before God and the Nigerian people.

The 1993 election was the fairest vote Nigeria ever had before military leaders stopped it. Chief MKO Abiola and his partner Babagana Kingibe really won that race. General Ibrahim Babangida cancelled the results and caused major problems. People used to protest on June 12 but the country celebrates it as a holiday since 2018. Buhari officially declared Abiola and Kingibe as the true winners of that historic election.
