Tinubu Faces Fury and Fear in Benue Visit

Political expert Enenche Obonyilo Peter warns President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about major problems he will face during his Wednesday visit to Benue State. The president changed his travel plans after armed attackers killed over 200 people in Yelwata community last Friday. Many Nigerians praise Tinubu for making the trip, but others blame him for the deadly attack. Critics say military forces stationed nearby failed to stop the violence. The president serves as commander-in-chief and bears responsibility for security failures.

Benue residents have suffered terrible losses from repeated herder attacks over many years. Families lost their homes, farms became graveyards, and schools turned into refugee camps. Rivers carry dead bodies and entire communities lie in ruins. Armed groups continue terrorizing local populations through kidnapping and murder. The crisis involves multiple factors that make solutions difficult to find.

Enenche identifies four main concerns residents hold. People fear herders want to steal their land with help from foreign fighters. Many believe the federal government works against state security efforts. Governor Hyacinth Alia faces criticism for staying quiet about attacks and favoring certain ethnic groups. Some think the violence aims to weaken Benue before the 2027 elections. The expert urges Tinubu to unite political leaders, stop forest bandits, and create fair representation for all ethnic groups.
