Tinubu, Makinde, others celebrate Bode George at 80

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu joined political and traditional leaders in celebrating former military governor Bode George as he marked his eighth decade. The chief executive, represented by Secretary to the Government George Akume at the Lagos ceremony, praised the retired officer's dual contributions through armed forces service and subsequent political engagement while highlighting his presentation of personal memoirs.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde thanked George for supporting his gubernatorial aspirations when internal Peoples Democratic Party tensions threatened to block his campaign announcement. Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed characterized the celebrant as a straightforward mentor who shaped numerous careers despite facing legal challenges during his tenure leading the Nigerian Ports Authority.

George urged younger Nigerians to maintain faith in their country despite setbacks, reflecting on decades that brought both recognition and adversity through military duty, government positions and opposition roles.
