Tinubu rescues Rivers State NDDC fallout, Admiral Ibas praises action

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas praised President Bola Tinubu's handling of Rivers State's political turmoil during Saturday's Niger Delta Development Commission anniversary celebration in Port Harcourt. The retired military officer, who serves as the state's sole administrator, described the presidential intervention as both timely and reassuring. Ibas emphasized that Tinubu's decisive actions successfully restored governmental order and strengthened administrative structures. The administrator expressed gratitude for the president's unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability. He highlighted Tinubu's demonstration of strong political will toward development, economic equity, and national unity.

Rivers State experienced significant political upheaval following conflicts between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike. The dispute created chaos within the state assembly and generated widespread tension throughout the region. President Tinubu responded by declaring a six-month state of emergency in March, which suspended both Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu. The president appointed Ibas to oversee state administration during this period. This presidential decision generated both supportive responses and legal challenges from various political quarters.

The political crisis reached resolution in June when Fubara and Wike participated in peace negotiations facilitated by President Tinubu. Both leaders pledged to collaborate in restoring stability and normalcy to Rivers State governance. The former adversaries appeared together at public events following their reconciliation discussions. Their joint appearances signaled a commitment to moving beyond previous disagreements. The successful mediation demonstrated the effectiveness of presidential intervention in resolving state-level political disputes.
