Touhid Hossain to attend high-level UN conference on Palestine in New York

Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain departs Sunday for New York to participate in a United Nations conference addressing Palestinian settlement issues. France and Saudi Arabia will host the ministerial gathering at UN headquarters from July 28 through 29. The meeting follows UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81 passed during December 2024. Officials expect Hossain to advocate for Palestinian rights and promote viable two-state arrangements. The adviser plans to return home August 1 after completing diplomatic discussions.

Ministers and senior UN representatives will examine methods to advance Palestinian statehood recognition amid Gaza humanitarian challenges. Bangladesh maintains strong historical ties to Palestinian independence efforts since recognizing their 1988 statehood declaration. The South Asian nation consistently champions Palestinian causes across international platforms. Hossain will emphasize Bangladesh's dedication to international law and UN Charter principles. Conference organizers seek widespread agreement on Gaza administration and unrestricted humanitarian assistance delivery to affected populations.
