Trump sends Texas troops to Illinois without warning

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker condemned President Donald Trump's order to deploy 400 additional Texas National Guard members to Illinois, Oregon, and other states without state consent. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott defended the deployment on Sunday evening, stating he fully authorized the action and challenged Pritzker to either enforce protections for federal employees or allow Texas forces to operate. The dispute emerged as federal immigration agents conducted mass arrests in Chicago, with residents reporting that children and U.S. citizens were detained.

Federal agents used Black Hawk helicopters to raid a five-story apartment building last week, and witnesses said some detainees were placed in zip ties without warrants. A federal judge temporarily blocked troops from deploying to Oregon on Sunday after the state filed a legal challenge. Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield argued the deployment violated constitutional limits on military use in American cities. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have employed physical force, chemical munitions, and rubber bullets against protesters opposing the raids.
