Trump vows 10 percent tariff on BRICS, sends US tariff letters Monday

President Trump went after a group of 11 countries Sunday with plans for new taxes on their goods. He targeted the BRICS alliance that brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and seven other nations. The president said any country that sides with what he calls their anti-American actions will face a 10 percent penalty on top of regular trade taxes. He made his announcement clear on his Truth Social website that Sunday afternoon.

Trump said there would be no breaks or special treatment for any nation that chooses to work with BRICS policies. He plans to start mailing out official letters about these new trade penalties and possible deals on Monday. The president set a specific time of noon Eastern for when these important documents will go out to various countries around the world. He shared this timeline with his followers on Truth Social the same day he made the tariff threat.

The new trade penalties come as Trump works to restart his tough trade approach with other nations. He confirmed that Monday would mark the beginning of his latest round of international trade talks. The president appears ready to use these extra taxes as a way to push back against countries he sees as challenging American interests. His team will deliver the first batch of these official notices to world leaders starting at midday Monday.
