TSMC racing to churn out 2nm chips in Arizona campus scramble

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is approaching the final selection of construction partners for its third Arizona manufacturing plant. Taiwanese supply chain sources report that TSMC will complete this contractor selection process before the year concludes. The facility represents part of a $65 billion investment under the CHIPS Act framework. TSMC filed initial plans with the Commerce Department outlining three separate factories across its Arizona campus. The third plant will focus on producing advanced 2-nanometer semiconductor products.

Construction timelines may accelerate beyond original projections that targeted production by decade's end. Supply chain reports suggest TSMC could expedite the facility's completion schedule significantly. Contractors gained valuable experience building the first two Arizona plants, which may reduce construction duration. Sources indicate the third facility could reach completion within one year under optimal conditions. This timeline mirrors construction speeds TSMC achieves at its Taiwan operations.

The first Arizona factory currently manufactures 4-nanometer chips for major technology companies like NVIDIA and Apple. TSMC recently broke ground on the second facility, which will produce 3-nanometer products. Construction partners have established licensing and operational presence across the United States. These suppliers provide essential services spanning air conditioning, piping, and electrical equipment installation. The established infrastructure base enables potentially faster completion schedules approaching four quarters versus three quarters in Taiwan.
