Tun Mahathir says no third term as PM but backs Perikatan Nasional to fight poverty

Malaysia's centenarian former leader ruled out serving as prime minister again if Perikatan Nasional gains federal control. Dr Mahathir Mohamad addressed supporters at the Himpunan Mandat Negarawan rally after celebrating his 100th birthday. The veteran politician acknowledged his advanced age limits his ability to deliver passionate speeches. He expressed willingness to step aside for younger leaders while offering guidance from eight decades in politics. His 24 years as prime minister provide valuable experience for future administrations.

The opposition coalition would welcome his counsel and tackle major challenges like poverty reduction, Mahathir claimed. He argued that changing governments would bring leaders receptive to veteran advice. Poverty alleviation represents a priority that PN could address effectively. The rally served as preparation for a larger demonstration planned for July 26 in Kuala Lumpur. Organizers aim to pressure current Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim into resignation through the upcoming Turun Anwar event.
