Twinkle Khanna quits films after Mela flops hard

Actress Twinkle Khanna disclosed that her voice was dubbed in the 2000 film Mela on her chat show Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle. The revelation came after actor Varun Dhawan expressed appreciation for her character Roopa. Khanna explained that filmmakers replaced her voice with another performer because they wanted a more dramatic delivery.

The film starred Aamir Khan, Faizal Khan, and Khanna but failed commercially and critically. Khanna married actor Akshay Kumar in January 2001, shortly after the release. Kumar previously stated in interviews that Khanna agreed to marry him only if Mela performed poorly at the box office.

The film's failure aligned with Khanna's decision to exit the film industry. She transitioned to other professional pursuits following her marriage to Kumar.
