Two arrested in Iganga for impersonating UPDF officers

Authorities in Iganga District detained two individuals who allegedly posed as military personnel while attempting to swindle a parliamentary candidate using replica firearms. Officers apprehended Derick Mugumira, a 30-year-old truck driver from Bugomba Village in Luuka District, and Wycliffe Walujo, a 24-year-old shopkeeper from Kasokoso Zone, after they arrived at Ntinda Valley Guest House expecting payment.

Regional police spokesman Micheal Kasadha explained that Mugumira had contacted an Iganga Municipality parliamentary hopeful in October, falsely identifying himself as a captain stationed at the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka. He requested 3 million shillings upfront to deploy what he described as a specialist team capable of securing electoral success. The suspicious candidate alerted authorities, prompting an investigation that revealed the fabricated weapons.

Security operatives arrested both men on Sunday, November 9, at the guesthouse meeting location. Kasadha advised political candidates to verify the credentials of anyone claiming security agency connections and report questionable contacts immediately.
