Two arrested in Ruwa US$176k theft, cash and cars recovered

Police detained two additional suspects connected to a theft case in Ruwa, where criminals stole US$176,000. Businessman Joseph Maruta had traveled from Kwekwe with payment for seed potatoes and visited his girlfriend Leoba Hunda at her Springvale residence. Armed thieves, Remember Gladmore Fadzauone and Tawanda Jabulani Makumana, collaborated with detained accomplice Blessing Kennes on June 7. The criminals smashed Maruta's vehicle window and entered the property. They escaped with cash totaling US$182,050, a smartphone, and firearms with ammunition.

Detectives tracked Fadzauone to Beitbridge following intelligence reports and arrested him at his hideout. Officers recovered US$5,300 during the search and learned about his extensive purchases using stolen funds. The suspect acquired multiple vehicles, real estate in Borrowdale and Rusape, plus equipment for his escape to Mozambique. Fadzauone revealed he compensated Makumana with US$7,000 for border assistance. Makumana purchased a vehicle, land in Murehwa, and family necessities with his share.
