A senior ruling party official caused a fatal collision that killed two people and injured seven others on Saturday night near Karoi. Sheppard Marime, who serves as national youth league secretary for education in Zanu PF, crossed into oncoming traffic while driving toward Karoi on the Harare-Chirundu Highway.
The crash occurred when Marime's vehicle struck a Toyota FunCargo traveling in the opposite direction at the 200-kilometer marker. Two passengers from the smaller vehicle died later at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, while another remains in critical condition. Marime suffered broken bones in both hands but remained stable after receiving treatment.
Police spokesman Ian Kohwera verified the accident between the Ford Ranger and Toyota FunCargo. Local residents have repeatedly raised concerns about dangerous road conditions at the crash site, citing narrow lanes and limited nighttime visibility that contribute to frequent head-on collisions.
