Two NUP candidates in Mbarara withdraw, citing a lack of support

Two National Unity Platform candidates have abandoned their campaigns for local council positions in Mbarara after alleging the party failed to deliver promised financial assistance and materials. Provia Bakazi and Hellen Kembaga announced their departures from both the elections and the political organization, stating that recruitment pledges made by Peter Mpaka were never honored.

Bakazi was seeking a councillor position representing Rwemigyina Ward, while Kembaga competed for a seat in Biharwe. Both women indicated they could not sustain operations across multiple cells without resources such as posters and monetary backing that had been assured during enrollment. Their withdrawals follow Mpaka's recent exit from his parliamentary contest.

The candidates maintain they enjoy grassroots backing but lack funds to mount effective campaigns. Their decisions contribute to mounting concerns about the party's organizational capacity and candidate support systems ahead of the elections.
