UETCL board names Eng Richard Matsiko acting CEO as Karamagi steps down

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited directors selected Eng. Richard Matsiko as Acting Chief Executive Officer during their July 24, 2025, board meeting. Joshua Karamagi stepped down from his leadership position after submitting his resignation letter. The board accepted his departure and thanked him for his service during his tenure. Board Chairman Kwame Ejalou praised Karamagi's contributions to the company's development. Ejalou congratulated Matsiko on his new appointment and wished him success.

Karamagi brought more than twenty years of energy and finance sector experience to UETCL when he joined as CEO in 2021. His leadership guided major infrastructure improvements, enhanced financial stability, and expanded Uganda's transmission network according to Vision 2040 energy objectives. Before UETCL, he held senior positions at Umeme and the Electricity Regulatory Authority, where he advanced sector reforms and private sector partnerships. Matsiko takes charge as UETCL focuses on grid reliability improvements, new generation plant integration, and regional interconnection projects under the East African Power Pool framework.
