UFS 5.0 set to outpace UFS 4.1 in Samsung's 2027 flagship

JEDEC says UFS 5.0 is nearly finished and stays compatible with UFS 4.0 and 4.1. Peak bandwidth doubles to 10,800 megabytes per second while each lane hits 6,400. The speed rivals PCIe Gen 5 SSDs and targets phones, tablets, wearables, cars, edge systems, and consoles. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Dimensity 9500 devices could ship with it, though real throughput may vary.

Inline hashing strengthens security, and link equalization boosts signal integrity. Noise isolation between the physical layer and memory eases system design and cuts power draw. JEDEC withheld efficiency figures but confirms clear gains over UFS 4.1’s 5,800-megabyte ceiling. Samsung, Micron, and SK hynix plan sampling in late 2026, with retail phones expected in 2027 flagships.
