Doctors at Aga Khan are basically screaming that Uganda's diabetes problem is spiraling because everyone keeps crushing junk food and skipping the gym. The hospital said lifestyle garbage like obesity and ultra-processed snacks combined with booze and zero exercise is pushing cases higher, while most people do not even know they have it until things get bad.
The country apparently has over 700k adults dealing with diabetes and the government plus families are dropping around 2.2 trillion shillings annually just managing Type 2 cases. Health officials dropped new treatment guidelines through the ministry and diabetes association to fix the mess, while warning that 89 percent of patients were not getting diagnosed or treated early enough. The hospital wants people getting screened and ditch processed foods instead of burning cash on treatment overseas.
