Uganda FM Eyes Big Africa Linkup

Uganda Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo Abubakhar wants better connections across Africa. During a panel at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey, he discussed building roads, increasing trade between countries, and expanding internet access. The minister said these improvements would help African economies grow stronger together.

Africa faces huge challenges with poor infrastructure. The continent needs up to $108 billion yearly to fix these problems, according to the African Development Bank. Only 15 percent of African trade happens between African nations, compared to 60 percent between European countries. Less than half of Africans have electricity access.

During the forum, Minister Odongo met with officials from Venezuela, Slovakia, Kenya, and Rwanda. He discussed new agreements with Venezuela planned for September 2025. With Slovakia, he worked on creating first-time cooperation programs. Kenya and Uganda promised to work together for peace in troubled areas like South Sudan. Rwanda and Uganda talked about solving regional security problems as partners.

The minister also spoke with a United Nations technology official about science projects for Uganda. The three-day forum, which Turkey has hosted for four years, brings together world leaders to discuss major international issues.
