Uganda Goes Sci-Fi, Dumps Cash On Mad Research Spree

Uganda leaders announced massive spending on science projects at a major research meeting. Ramathan Ggoobi told crowds that smart countries make more money and create better jobs for people. The government wants to build a knowledge economy that helps ordinary citizens earn decent wages. Officials believe science investments will make the nation grow faster than before. They plan to focus on medicine production, space research, and advanced manufacturing.

The country will spend one hundred million dollars on a new drug factory. Workers will also build science labs and a car assembly plant that makes twenty-five hundred vehicles each year. Government experts want to change what Uganda sells to other countries. They hope to boost manufactured products from fifteen percent to fifty percent of all exports before 2030. Coffee, gold, and tourism currently bring the most foreign money into the country.

Finance officials are finishing internet connections across rural areas and giving more cash to researchers. Joseph Enyimu said scientists need to turn their discoveries into real products that people can buy. The government plans to register new inventions and create technology parks for inventors. Bank of Uganda leaders spent heavily on research that helped make their currency the strongest performer worldwide. Officials set a goal of reaching five hundred billion dollars worth of economic activity before 2040.
