Uganda's High Commission kicked off a week-long tourism push in Johannesburg, and the whole thing is about getting Southern Africa more plugged into Uganda's travel scene. Ambassador Paul Amoru is leading a delegation that's hitting six cities to run workshops, show off what Uganda has to offer, and get tour operators talking business. The roadshow stops in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Gaborone, Windhoek, and Harare.
Amoru said Southern Africa is becoming a big deal for Uganda because travelers from there spend well and want the premium safari experience. South African Tourism rep Bontle Madiba backed the move, saying African countries should team up instead of competing against each other. The whole effort is meant to boost cross-border tourism packages and get more visitors flowing between regions.
Afrireps Consult is handling logistics for the High Commission, and the program is running under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' economic diplomacy initiative.
