Uganda Prisons celebrates record number of senior six candidates

Uganda Prisons Services reports that 70 incarcerated individuals have begun senior six examinations for the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education, representing the highest participation rate in two decades. Spokesperson Frank Baine indicated that 66 male and four female inmates are sitting for the assessments, with the initiative demonstrating strong rehabilitative outcomes since its inception 20 years ago.

Research conducted by the prison authority shows that 98 percent of participants initially enroll to combat monotony but develop genuine commitment through mentorship, ultimately transforming into productive citizens upon release. Jennifer Kalule from the Uganda National Examinations Board confirmed that Luzira Upper serves as the sole designated prison testing center receiving materials and personnel directly, while 20 additional inmate learning facilities coordinate with neighboring schools for examination administration. The broader 2025 examination cycle involves 166,402 registered candidates at 2,844 centers nationwide.
