Uganda, Saudi Arabia plot trade, health, labor ties

Senior officials from Uganda and Saudi Arabia held talks in Kampala to boost cooperation. The meeting was led by Uganda's Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, and Saudi Arabia's Director General for African Affairs, Saqr Sulaiman Al Qurashi.

The discussions covered several key areas. Uganda thanked Saudi Arabia for its help with health projects like the Naguru Heart Institute and for long-term support to the Islamic University. Both sides talked about the many Ugandans working in the Kingdom, agreeing to improve training and protection for those laborers. They also aligned on political issues concerning regional stability in Africa and the Middle East.

On the economic front, Uganda invited Saudi investment into agriculture, specifically coffee, meat, dairy, and fruit processing. They also proposed creating a special industrial park for Saudi investors under Uganda's free zone rules to target export markets. The talks ended with a plan to set up clearer priorities and a system for implementing these ideas, including possible high-level visits in the future.
