Uganda Tanzania Zanzibar Sign Mega Oil Pact

Uganda's Petroleum Authority signed a deal with oil regulators from Tanzania and Zanzibar during a ceremony at Entebbe. The three groups want to share knowledge about running oil and gas businesses across East Africa. PAU chairperson Lynda Biribonwa said regional cooperation helps countries use their resources better. East Africa attracts many oil companies because the region holds lots of unexplored petroleum. Working together makes sense for these specialized industries that need expensive technology.

The agreement covers important areas like managing petroleum resources and building local skills. Officials will share safety practices and monitor costs across their operations. Tanzania's board chair Halfani Halfani wants to make their informal relationship official and lasting. Zanzibar's managing director believes combining resources helps everyone learn from each other. Charles Sangweni from Tanzania expects the partnership will strengthen bonds between technical teams.

Leaders started planning this partnership about one year ago during informal talks. Tanzania officials hope to expand cooperation with Kenya and other neighbors later. The visiting delegation will tour Uganda's oil fields near Lake Albert during their stay. Uganda prepares for first oil production from these areas within the next few years. Regional proverbs remind leaders that unity brings strength to developing nations.
