Umno leaders pressure Anwar to act on Najib's house arrest royal addendum row

Umno division chiefs have pressured Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to implement a royal order allowing former leader Najib Razak to complete his prison sentence at home. Malaysiakini reports that 160 division leaders from 191 attendees at yesterday's meeting supported this demand. Wangsa Maju Umno chief Shafei Abdullah stated the prime minister must take full responsibility for executing the addendum order that the previous king approved. He accused former attorney-general Terrirudin Mohd Salleh of hiding the document for more than a year despite palace confirmation on January 4. Shafei called for a royal commission to investigate Terrirudin's alleged misconduct.

Anwar previously said his government respects all viewpoints on the addendum but emphasized that courts must handle the document. The Attorney General's Chambers confirmed the supplementary order exists during Federal Court proceedings. Najib filed for judicial review in April 2024, seeking government confirmation of the house arrest provision. The Court of Appeal sent his case back to the High Court for merit-based review in January.
