UN backs Trump Gaza plan with Russia, China abstaining

The United Nations Security Council approved a resolution backing President Donald Trump's proposal to end hostilities in Gaza and deploy an international stabilization force to the Palestinian territory. The measure passed after Russia and China chose to abstain rather than exercise their veto power, marking a diplomatic victory for the Trump administration.

The resolution authorizes deployment of peacekeeping troops to enforce demilitarization while establishing a transitional Board of Peace under Trump's leadership to guide reconstruction efforts. The plan references eventual Palestinian self-determination contingent on Palestinian Authority reforms and successful redevelopment. Israel and the Palestinian Authority expressed support for certain aspects, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated opposition to Palestinian statehood.

Hamas rejected the proposal entirely, refusing demands to surrender weapons and condemning what it characterized as external guardianship over Gaza. Russian and Chinese diplomats criticized the framework for sidelining the United Nations while concentrating authority in American-led structures.
