UNDP praises Guyana’s 2025 elections as a milestone for democracy

The United Nations Development Programme declared Guyana's general and regional polls among the most credible electoral exercises witnessed in recent memory after President Irfaan Ali and his People's Progressive Party secured 36 legislative positions. Technical advisers funded by Britain helped transform the Guyana Elections Commission into a model of institutional transparency through comprehensive media training for over 100 journalists, accessibility improvements for disabled voters, and deployment of nearly 14,000 polling workers across coastal and remote territories.

UNDP specialists credited strategic communications protocols and crisis management frameworks for restoring public confidence in democratic mechanisms following contentious previous cycles. The development agency pledged continued partnership with electoral authorities to cement gains in civic trust and operational professionalism.
